The Problem with America's Standardized School System | Parenting - Yahoo Shine
A killer article about what is the real problem with America's school system.
They want robots, sheep and conformity and look at those like John Lennon, who buck the system and publicly out it for what it is as be dangerous.
A one size fits all approach doesn't work well with anything in life and it's creating kids who cannot think for themselves and simply ask why?
I had a great teacher at my high school who taught US history and didn't teach from the texts we were issued.
He literally had us neatly stack our book in the corner and we could pick them up at the end of the year.
He was very intelligent and way ahead of the curve on this very issue.
He taught from a college text book and I never knew at the time he was teaching us "real" history of this country.
African-American regiments in the civil war, Japanese internment camps, things that might get a brief mention, but most likely will never make it into a standard US history text book.
Throw into this mess the fact that Texas influences a very large percentage of all American school books bought as they are the single biggest buyer of books per capita, now an entire nation is reading approved history lessons ok'd by the Texas Board of Education.
These very people who put their religious and personal beliefs ahead of a proper and factual based education, simply because they can.
In as many ways, we the people have failed in allowing our kids minds to be actively hijacked as we sit silently.
When do those, who care, and see this situation for what it is, do something?
