Daughters I.E.P. meeting went surprisingly well. Free Speech restrictions lifted! Common ground found.
Meeting started on a shaky start as I brought up an immediate objection to only allowing a limited scope to access to our daughters medical records.
The flow went pretty good with Speech and the nurse doing their presentations.
I did again object to the scope of the medical releases and the school nurse did get a little agitated, but legally she didn't have a leg to stand on.
She then went on to describe what we already knew, that she can only get into records we allow.
More of the treating us like idiots treatment even though we had researched and already been advised to take this course of action.
Rest of the meeting followed as it should have.
A few things kind of irritated me even though I held my tongue:
1. The recording of the meeting which is not standard for any IEP meeting and obviously another intimidation, harassment ploy.
This was a watch what you say moment, as we will have an archive and probably trying to record a "gotcha" moment that was never going to happen.
And to simply copy what I have done or have evidence to use against us, just more mind games.
1a. No recording devices will be allowed at Devin's or Jamie's IEP meetings.
We as parents cannot guarantee the chain of custody of these recordings or how they will be used in the future. The school doesn't have a blind release to use my kids in media events and if so, it will be revoked immediately. If I cannot trust you, we aren't going there.
2. I once again will be limiting the scope of medical documents and what they can dive into to see.
I'm not giving a school employee free reign over my kids complete medical history.
That's just a set up situation as I still don't 100% trust them or know where their motives lie.
Then we had the discussion about the letter that was poster here.
I did eat crow and say that I'm truly sorry meaning it, but it still leaves a nasty taste in my mouth.
We also found out my wife was locked out of the education process by orders of the Superintendent and no criminal letter was sent to her. My unfounded fears and theory was slam dunk, proven true.
It just goes to show what people will do, going to great lengths to control those who assert their rights and buck against the robot creating machine.
I am happy and thankful the tyrannical restrictions were listed, but I'm not happy that they even went there.
I will tone it down and go through official channels as discussed at our after meeting, but I will never be willing locked out and barred from my kids educational experience ever again.
Even President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama have said the greatest things parents can do is read to their kids and become actively involved in the educational process.
Yes Mr. President and the very beautiful First Lady, I 100% concur...
